Dr. Abdulhamit Dündar graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History in 2009. He completed his Master’s degree in 2012 at Marmara University, Institute of Turkic Studies, with a thesis entitled “Baghdad Madrasas in the Seljuk Era: The Example of the Imam al-Aʿzam Abū Ḥanīfa Madrasa,” supervised by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sabri Küçükaşcı. In 2019, he received his PhD from Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University, Institute of Social Sciences, with a doctoral dissertation entitled “Baghdad in the 4th/10th Century: Topography, Social Structure, and Daily Life.”
He began his academic career as a Research Assistant in the Department of History at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University in 2012. Between 2014 and 2019, he served as a researcher within the Researcher Training Project (AYP) at the TDV Centre for Islamic Studies (İSAM). From 2020 to 2025, he held the position of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University. In 2025, he joined Sakarya University, where he is currently a faculty member in the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Throughout his undergraduate and graduate education, Dr. Dündar placed particular emphasis on language acquisition and field research. He received Arabic language training in Syria and Jordan between 2007 and 2009, and conducted academic research in London during the 2015–2016 academic year as part of his doctoral studies. His primary research interests include Medieval Islamic history, with a particular focus on Abbasid Baghdad, urban topography, social structures, and daily life.
